Since our students have continually expressed concern about their level of English grammar before attending our TESOL Course, OxfordTEFL is pleased to announce that now our Trinity Cert. TESOL Course includes an Advanced Grammar Revision course designed to help you further brush up your English Grammar. This optional extra course is free of charge and comes in addition to our standard pre-course task, which includes work on grammar, phonology and methodology. It will help you improve your knowledge of grammar further and feel more confident about your teaching practice.

OxfordTEFL extension courses are aimed at people who have recently completed the Trinity CertTESOL (or a similar course) and wish to gain extra knowledge and skills in teaching Young Learners or Teaching Business English. The courses are 3 day intensives ( total 20 hours) with follow up support on-line for six months.

Why an extension course?

English Language Teaching is very diverse. There are opportunities to teach anything from a class of four year old children to a one to one with a business executive who needs coaching to improve his or her presentation skills. Some teachers, particularly in the early stages of their career find themselves doing both! Opportunities will vary according to where you work and your own preferences. Employers are naturally impressed if you have some specialised training in key aspects of teaching Young Learners and Teaching Business English. See course details below.

An extension course can widen your job prospects and, equally importantly, give you extra confidence in dealing with specific challenges such as those described above which are not dealt with in detail on the Cert TESOL course.

The Course Includes:

3. Peer teaching to develop your cofidence to put ideas into practice

4. On-line support from our tutor team for 6 months after completing your course.

5. The opportunity to shadow a teacher at OxfordTEFL for half a day, observing and assisting classes and discussing them with the teacher

Certificates and Assessment

Participants will receive an OxfordTEFL Extension Certificate in Young Learners (or Business English), provided they attend the 20 course hours. The certificate will include an outline of course content. We will provide further references to employers as required. OxfordTEFL extension courses are aimed at people who have recently completed the Trinity CertTESOL (or a similar course) and wish to gain extra knowledge and skills in teaching Young Learners or Teaching Business English.



After the course:

Course Descriptions

Teaching Young Learners

The workshops cover areas that newly qualified teachers typically need most support with. They focus on planning and classroom management issues. They are highly practical and include opportunities to create materials and peer teach.

You will leave the course with practical ideas on how to approach Young Learner classes as well as materials and ideas for specific activities.

Teaching Business English

Teaching English to company employees can require different approaches and skills to teaching "general English". Groups are often much smaller and usually have specific requirements relating to the contexts they will need to use English in.

The course helps to prepare you for this with practical workshops introducing the world of Business itself as well as teaching in Businesses. We use case studies and practical examples.

Would you recommend this course and if so, why?

Yes! I was hired and assigned in-company classes starting immediately, so it was somewhat of a sink or swim situation! Having never taught Business English before (and with only the TEFL course as teaching experience) I felt much more prepared and confident knowing I had at least some Business English experience and resources I could utilize. I am also much younger than the majority of my students, and I now teach every level from elementary to advanced. Things I learned in the course I use everyday. For example, we learned about needs analysis on Monday, and I used it in each of my classes that same week!
