TEFL Certificate Entry Requirements

Oxford-62-w1024-h768 Please note that it is not necessary to have a degree, to be a native speaker of English, to be able to speak a foreign language, or to have any previous teaching experience.

To be accepted on a course you will need to be at least 18 years old and to demonstrate the following:

  • The ability to cope with the academic demands of the course. This could mean having a university degree (in progress or finished) but could also be other academic qualifications or skills acquired through work experience.
  • At least a C1 level of English (Advanced). If you do not possess a qualification which proves your level, your level of English will be measured via the interview process and a short written task.
  • Interest in teaching and learning.
  • Appropriate personal qualities for teaching.
  • Sufficiently good health to deal with the demands of an intensive course of training, travel and working abroad.

You will also need a copy of your most significant academic qualification, to be handed in on the first day of the course. It is a Trinity requirement that we keep these on file.

Please be aware that you may need to obtain a visa for the country in which you will study so you would need to ensure you have enough time to obtain it before the course commences.

Information can be found via our visa service pages.
