Study Spanish in Cadiz

Why not make the most of your time in Cadiz by combining your Trinity TESOL Certificate and/or Teaching Younger Learners Extension course with some Spanish classes? We offer courses for the complete beginner up to advanced learners or, indeed, anywhere in between.

The TESOL course and its methodology will prepare you to teach adults anywhere in the world without needing to know the language of that country. Having said that, the benefits of speaking the language of the country are perhaps obvious; having a reasonable grasp of Spanish will help you settle into the country, help you make friends and help you understand the needs of your students. Also, employers are understandably keen to employ teachers who can speak Spanish, at least to some extent. So, having some Spanish is a huge benefit both socially and professionally.

Also, it is always good for teachers to be actively involved in learning at any level as it helps us understand and empathise with our students. From the point of view of the TESOL course, being a Spanish student will give you invaluable insights into both teaching and learning. This is a wonderful opportunity for your own teaching as you will observe experienced teachers in action.

The only course on the south coast of Andalusia, Spain

Located directly on the Atlantic coast of Andalusia in Spain, Cadiz is a real alternative to other city-based courses. With an approximate population of 130,000, it is large enough to have plenty going on but retains the intimate feel of a small and friendly town. Often referred to as "Little Havana", its people are proud of their openness, warmth and love of life. Andalusia, and especially Cadiz, conjures images of fine sandy beaches and low-cost water sports (sailing and surfing, and wind and kite surfing are particularly popular), flamenco, "tapas" and "fino" (or sherry, but not like your grandmother used to drink). Add to this heady mix the weather, with an average of over 300 days of sunshine throughout the year, and Cadiz really is the ideal location for the TESOL course.

Teaching Younger Learners Extension Course

Sign up for our package and receive the YLE Course at a 25% discount.

Throughout the world, and especially in Spain, teaching younger learners (3-18) has become a key part of TEFL teachers' remit. We often find ourselves teaching more children than adults. At the end of any certificate course, while trainees should feel confident about teaching adults, the same might not be said for teaching younger learners. Both ex-trainees and employers have identified a need for further, more specific training in this area. We offer a short introductory course which gives you the skills you need to start teaching younger learners feeling well-prepared, confident and enthusiastic.

The course

The Teaching Younger Learners Extension Course (TYLE) covers key areas of methodology alongside practical applications and will leave you with an extensive range of ideas and activities to use in the classroom. You will end the course with the confidence you need to embark on your teaching career with younger learners. The course has been designed in close collaboration with a large number of employers and is targeted to give you exactly the skills they are looking for and that you need. The TYLE course takes place over three days, the week following the Certificate course. It involves four and a half hours per day of workshops, discussions and video observations.

The Weather

Andalucía enjoys one of the mildest climates in Europe with a year-round average temperature of 18-20ºC on the coast and an average of over 300 days of sunshine throughout the year. While temperatures soar inland, Cádiz remains temperate during the summer with maximum temperatures in July /August of 30ºC compared to Seville´s maximum 40ºC in July and August.

Visas/Work permits/Health insurance

Visas/Work Permits:
EU citizens are not required to have a visa or work permit. Non EU citizens can stay up to 3 months as tourists. We can provide advice and information for those wishing to secure work and residence permits after course completion. EU citizens seeking work in Spain will not require a working visa. Non EU citizens can apply for a working visa once a job is secured, but this is a lengthy process and most work for cash in hand ( technically illegal, but common practice)

Health insurance
EU citizens are covered and do not need separate medical insurance for up to three months. US citizens will need to be insured. You have several options. First, check with any insurance policy you already have and see if they have an overseas provision, or rider that you can purchase. Your family might also have a general policy that provides this. There are also companies that specialize in overseas policies, for both short-term and longer stays. The rates are reasonable and the service might actually be better than an add-on to an existing policy. You can find these on the web under "overseas insurance" or "travelers insurance." We are told that Patriot is a popular company to use.

Citizens of other countries may need a visa to enter the country. Please consult your local Spanish consulate.
