Certificate in Content Language Integrated Learning (CLIL)
This 3 week online course will suit teachers who are planning on teaching a core subject (geography, natural sciences etc.) in English to non-native speakers
Aim of the course
The aim of this course is for teachers to develop their knowledge and skills in three areas.
-
CLIL methodology
- CLIL lesson planning/materials creation
Participants look at the factors to be considered in creating CLIL classes, in particular the selection and adaptation of materials, and the incorporation of activities to maximise learner involvement. - CLIL teaching techniques
Participants look at how to incorporate EFL (English as a Foreign Language) techniques into subject teaching to aid learner understanding of instructions and explanations. Participants will learn about a wide array of teaching ideas and techniques, and get the chance to put them into practice in an end of course project where they plan a CLIL class incorporating the ideas and techniques covered on the course.
The course also aims to raise participants' awareness of the importance of collaboration across English and subject departments and the use of peer observation as a tool for professional development.
Participants examine aspects of second language acquisition theory relevant to CLIL teaching.
