Aim of the course

Blended Learning refers to combining face-to-face with online instruction. Many language learners find blended learning can be a very effective way to improve their English, combining elements of flexibility without sacrificing face-to-face contact with a teacher which is usually crucial to success.

By the end of the course you will have a greater understanding of how blended learning works and what to consider when creating a blended learning program. You will also be introduced to several online applications and learn to utilize these tools to create activities that enhance the effectiveness of your lessons and involve students more directly in the learning process.

This 20-hour course will help you understand how you can create a blended course for students by looking at the tools available and the principles which underpin using them effectively.

Is the Blended Learning course for you?

Blended learning is likely to increase in popularity for language learners in the coming years as they recognise the practical and pedagogical advantages. Teachers and schools will need to adapt traditional face-to-face modes of learning to meet this demand. This course will help to prepare you for the challenge of making blended learning work for your language learners, ensuring the right technology gets used in the right way for the right reasons.

This course is suitable for any teacher with an interest in familiarising themselves with tools and strategies for incorporating electronic media into their current teaching or designing courses which incorporate electronic media from the outset (blended courses).

It is not necessary to have any specific prior technical knowledge beyond an e-mail account, though it is useful to familiarise yourself with some basic features such as blogs and wikis (see recommended reading and weblinks below).

Testimonials

I took a Blended Learning Course to become familiar with various learning environments and the most effective ways to blend them. I’ve created my own virtual learning classroom and my students seem to love attending it.

Nadya Burenina

I knew very little about how blended learning worked and I had no previous knowledge about technology.I was afraid that it might be too difficult but it was just perfect and the teacher was always there. I found it very interesting, very useful and I feel I’ve learned a lot. I’m just looking forward to using all that I’ve learnt in my classes and take advantage of it. Thanks!
